Welcome

After many attempts and many years of talk, once again a nationally uniform set of O H & S legislation for all of Australia’s States and Territories is back on the front burner. Will this attempt be successful? How long is a piece of string?

But, one thing is for certain -it is desperately needed. The Victorian legislators in their wisdom updated the O H & S Regulations 2007 and appeared to have completely deleted the obligation to carry out Risk Assessments. Then by way of clarification they issued a statement to the effect that…”conducting risk assessments is unnecessary –where the risk is well known and the solution is obvious”

It is this and other even more vague , ambiguous and subjective legislation that leaves employers especially those operating in several States hoping that perhaps, this time a National Uniform Code may yet be developed.

The focus of this Update of the Website is directed toward two key significant and increasingly serious O H & S issues namely, STRESS and exposure in the work environment to HAZARDOUS CHEMICALS.

The world we live in is rapidly becoming a very stressful environment. Inevitably we all, take to our workplaces these pressures and when the workplace is also stressful this combination can make us ill. Happily stressors in the workplace can be identified and a Stress Management Plan developed. This subject is further explained under the Head – STRESS IN THE WORK-PLACE.

Studies show that an ever increasing number of chemicals are being released in to the environment and worse still is the fact that in the workplace this exposure is increasing and more and more workers are being exposed to toxins that have serious potential to generate harm to workers. All too often they are completely unaware of this exposure. See further below under the head - HAZARDOUS SUBSTANCES.
